Description

Cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (Cdk5) is a member of the Cdk family of proteins that are involved in the regulation of the mitotic cell cycle. p35 protein is neuronal-specific regulatory subunit of Cdk5 and activates Cdk5 via its direct interaction. p35/Cdk5 activity is essential for neuronal morphogenesis and survival. p35 is cleaved by the Ca²⁺ dependent Cys protease calpain, which results in the generation of a C-terminal truncation product named p25. Containing all elements necessary for the activation of Cdk5, p25 activates Cdk5. Generation of p25 in the nervous system has been implicated in patients with Alzheimerâs disease. It is suggested that p25/Cdk5 contributes to neuronal cell death after neurotoxic insults.

Storage

The antibody is stable in lyophilized form if stored at -20°C or below. The reconstituted antibody can be stored for 2-3 weeks at 2-8°C. For long term storage, aliquot and store at -20°C or below. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing cycles.

Specificity

GenScript Rabbit Anti-p35 Polyclonal Antibody detects endogenous levels of mouse and rat p35. It is predicted to react with human p35 according to sequence homology.
Positive Control: mouse brain, and rat brain.

0.5 mg/ml, lyophilized with PBS, pH 7.4, containing 0.02% sodium azide.

The suitability of this antibody for applications other than those listed below has not been determined. The following concentration ranges are recommended starting points for this product.
