Cytokines, a category of immunoactive proteins, act as humoral regulators which modulate the functional activities of individual cells and tissues at nano to picomolar concentrations either under normal or pathological conditions. The cytokine family consists mainly of smaller, water-soluble proteins and glycoproteins with molecular mass between 8 and 30 kDa, including haemopoietin, interleukin, interferon, epidermal growth factor, tumour necrosis factor, transforming growth factor, chemokine, and others that are secreted by the cells of immune system to regulate immune response. Growth factors typically act as signaling molecules between cells which play a important role in regulating a veriaty of celluler processes.
