Kassinin is a tachykinin peptide with substance P-like activity. Tachykinins are active peptides which excite neurons, evoke behavioral responses, are potent vasodilators and secretagogues, and contract (directly or indirectly) many smooth muscles. The effect of the tachykinin dodecapeptide kassinin on endocrine pancreatic function was examined in the rat and compared to that of substance P, a neuropeptide which is structurally closely related to kassinin.
