| Abbreviated Name-2 | HuFSH |
| Description | Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) (native), human is a glycoprotein produced from urine of post-menopausal women and having a total molecular mass of 30,000 Da. HuFSH is a heterodimeric hormone consisting of 92 amino acids in its a chain (non-active) and 111 amino acids in its b chain (active). HuFSH induces maturation of Graafian follicles of the ovary, promotes development of germinal cells in males, and activates cytosolic tyrosine kinase. HuFSH is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques. |
| Source | Urine of post-menopausal women |
| M.W. | 30,000 Da |
| Purity | Greater than 98.0% as determined by the following methods: (a) Analysis by RP-HPLC
(b) Analysis by SDS-PAGE |
| Specific Activity | The activity was found to be 626 IU/mg powder. The specific activity was found to be 10,000 IU/mg protein (IRP reference preparation 68/140). |
| Storage | Although lyophilized FSH remains stable at room temperature for three weeks, it is best stored desiccated below -18°C. Upon reconstitution, FSH may be stored at 4°C for up to one week and below -18°C for longer periods. For long-term storage it is recommended that a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA) be added. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles. |
| Formulation | FSH is lyophilized from a concentrated (1 mg/ml) solution with no additives. |
| Reconstitution | It is recommended that the lyophilized FSH be reconstituted in sterile 18 MΩ-cm H2O not less than 100 µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions. |
| Quantitation | Protein quantitation is carried out by two independent methods: 1. UV spectroscopy at 280 nm 2. RP-HPLC analysis, using a calibrated solution of FSH as a reference standard
|
| Quality Control | Less than: 0.1% hCG, 0.5% TSH, 0.5% LH, 0.5% GH and 0.5% Prl. Free of HbsAg, antibodies to HIV and HCV. |
