Tay-Sachs An inherited disorder caused by the absence of a vital enzyme called Hexosaminidase (hex-A) which results in the destruction of the nervous system. A baby who has Tay-Sachs develops normally for the first few months, then deterioration causing mental and physical disabilities begins.
