heavy chain

One of two or more kinds of polypeptide chain of a heteromultimeric protein, distinguished by molecular mass, e.g. one of the larger polypeptide chains that, when combined with another heavy chain and two light chains, make up an immunoglobulin molecule; also the largest of the polypeptide chains of any multimeric protein with non-identical subunits.
