immunoelectrophoresis

A method for analysis of antibody or antigen mixtures. A solution of antibodies is electrophoresed in a gel, then exposed to an antigen solution placed in a trough cut into the gel parallel to the direction of the separation. The antibodies and antigens diffuse into the gel, and where they meet they precipitate and form a visual or stainable arc.
