A protein that contains the sequence Arg-Pro-Pro-Gly-Phe-Ser-Pro-Arg which has inhibitory activity against cysteine proteinases. A kininogen is a precursor of a kinin, which is a decapeptide or undecapeptide produced by the proteolytic activity on a kininogen by a kallikrein. An L-kininogen is a low-molecular-mass kininogen and an H-kininogen is a high-molecular-mass kininogen, e.g. T-kininogen is one of the H-kininogens in the rat. (see also alpha1 α1)-cysteine proteinase inhibitor; cystatin; thiostatin (T-kininogen))
