quinimine form A tautomer of the Schiff base adduct of pyridoxal phosphate with an amino acid in which the pyridine ring nitrogen is protonated but uncharged and the carbon atom of the coenzyme that attaches the amino group of the amino acid has lost a proton. It is an intermediate between the aldimine form (in which the pyridine ring is protonated and charged and the attachment of the amino acid to the cofactor is a Schiff base) and the ketimine form (which can best be represented as a Schiff base formed by condensation of an a-oxo acid with pyridoxamine).
