Descriptive of the replication of DNA in which the parent strand that is exposed from its 3'-end towards its 5'-end is used as a template for continuous synthesis of a new strand, but the parent strand that is exposed from its 5'-end towards its 3'-end is used as a template for synthesis of short discontinuous segments of DNA, called Okazaki fragments.
