X-ray crystallography

A method for structural analysis of solids that have a repeating unit; dependent upon the ability of electrons to scatter X-rays, and capable of locating in space atoms larger than hydrogen in proteins and nucleic acids as well as in less complex compounds. (see also neutron diffraction)
