Dintzis experiment The method by which it was demonstrated that proteins are synthesized in the N- to C-terminal direction. A labelled amino acid was supplied to a reticulocyte preparation synthesizing haemoglobin and the completed globin chains were isolated after a brief incubation. The radioactive products were found to be concentrated in the C-terminus, indicating that this was the last part of the molecule to be formed. Dintzis, H.M. (1961) Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 47, 247-261
