depletion-insertion

A technique used to define properties of a cellular, subcellular or tissue model, in which a variable or undesired constituent, e.g. membrane phospholipid, is removed (by a phospholipase) and then replaced by a substitute constituent of defined characteristics (e.g. phosphatidylserine).
