abetalipoproteinemia a rare genetic disorder of fat metabolism that interferes with the normal absorption of fat and fat soluble vitamins from food. It is characterized by severe deficiency of beta-lipoproteins and abnormal red blood cells (acanthocytes) and abnormally low cholesterol levels.
