the innermost membranous sac enclosing the embryo of an amniote; it becomes filled with Amniotic fluid. One of the four amniote extraembryonic membranes; derived from the somatopleure (combination of ectoderm and somatic mesoderm). Used mainly for suspension and protection o fthe embryo.
