enol The tautomeric form of a -CH2-CO- group; -CH=COH-. In nucleic acid chemistry, the alternative representations of the purine and pyrimidine rings as fully aromatic, with the substituent oxygens as phenolic hydroxy groups (enols), or as parts of carbonyl groups.
