Bone Metabolism

Overview

Bone Metabolism is a dynamic process. Its signaling pathways are complex and several control mechanisms are required to maintein proper rates of growth and differentiation of the bones. These controls includes parathyroid hormone (PTH), vitamin D, growth hormone, steroids, as well as several bone marrow-derived membrane and soluble cytokines and growth factors. It is in this way that the body is able to achieve proper levels of calcium required for physiological processes.
