These results demonstrate that radiation injury induces early cytoskeletal remodeling, down-regulation of SMPDL3b, and elevation of cellular ceramide levels. Overexpression of SMPDL3b and pretreatment with rituximab confer a radioprotective effect in cultured podocytes.
