This peptide, C31, consists of 31 amino acids and corresponds to the C-terminal fragment of the amyloid precursor protein (APP). The generation of this C31 peptide through the cleavage of APP by caspase is associated with neuronal death linked to Alzheimers disease. In addition, this peptide is a potent inducer of apoptosis and is located in lipid rafts together with APP-BP1, a binding protein for APPs intracellular domain. |
