Description
The glucagon-like peptides include glucagon, GLP-1, and GLP-2 exert diverse actions on nutrient intake, gastrointestinal motility, islet hormone secretion, cell proliferation and apoptosis, as well as nutrient absorptionand assimilation. Glucagon-like peptide (GLP)-2, a product of the proglucagon gene, is expressed in enteroendocrine cells of the small and large intestine and is trophic to the gastrointestinal mucosa. GLP-2 also inhibits gastric acid secretion and emptying and up-regulates intestinal hexose transport. GLP-2 acts via binding to a single G protein-coupled GLP-2 receptor (GLP-2R).

Figure 1. GLP-2 (1-34)-induced concentration-dependent stimulation of intracellular calcium mobilization in CHO-K1/GLP2/Gα15 and CHO-K1/Gα15 cells. The cells were loaded with Calcium-4 prior to stimulation with a GLP2 receptor agonist, GLP-2 (1-34). The intracellular calcium change was measured by FlexStation. The relative fluorescent units (RFU) were plotted against the log of the cumulative doses (10-fold dilution) of GLP-2 (1-34) (Mean ± SD, n = 2). The EC50 of GLP-2 (1-34) on GLP2 co-expressing with Gα15 in CHO-K1 cells was 46 nM. The S/B of GLP-2 (1-34) on GLP2 co-expressing with Gα15 in CHO-K1 cells was 6.
