Obese patients usually lose weight by way of diet. The researchers want to find a way to limit fat intake on the basis of normal diet in order to lose weight. Recently, researchers at Yale University discovered the secret of fat uptake by lymphatic vessels in the small intestine. They observed that knocking out NRP1 and Flt1 can lower the absorption of food lipid. The wild-type mice and gene knock-out mice were fed a high-fat diet for 16 weeks. It’s interesting that the weight of wild-type mice almost tripled while that of the gene knock-out mice did not change. They found that it’s caused by the absence of these two genes, which can induce lacteal junction zippering and chylomicron malabsorption. These data suggest that lacteal junctions may be the targets for preventing dietary fat uptake.
