ELOVL3 expression increased gradually during skeletal muscle-derived satellite cell (MDSC) differentiation, and its levels were higher in the more highly differentiated myotubes. Activation of ELOVL3 promoted MDSC differentiation, while inhibition of ELOVL3 hindered differentiation of these cells.
