TRPA1 is an excitatory ion channel on primary sensory neurons of the pain pathway. It belongs to the TRP channel family. These nonselective cation channels are expressed by a subset of unmyelinated C-fiber nociceptors, whose activation brings forth acute pain accompanied by vasodilation, vascular leakage, and inflammation.
