Ever thought about improving your Western workflow? Wondered if there's a way to reduce monotonous tasks, enhance quality, and still save on cost?

In a recent conversation with Dr. Lei Liu, Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, we explored how Dr. Liu used GenScript's exceptional SurePAGE gels to elevate his Western workflow.

In this interview, Dr. Liu shares his lab’s experience with GenScript SurePAGE Gel, highlighting how it has transformed their daily work by offering exceptional separation, high resolution, and publication-quality results.

Let's dive into the discussion with Dr. Liu and learn more about his experience with the SurePAGE Gel.

Dr. Liu

How did you find out about SurePAGE™ Gel?

Dr. Lei Liu

Liu: Historically, I have been open to testing out various precast gels available in the market, including well-known brand names and smaller ones. Two years ago, a GenScript Catalog Product representative brought a sample of SurePAGE gels during an on-site visit to our lab. I agreed to test out the gel; however, I did not have expectations for the GenScript gel to offer added value from what I have already tried with other gels on the market.

Tell me how your first experience with SurePAGE™ Gel went.

Dr. Lei Liu

Liu: SurePAGE gel was an instant success for our lab! It showed impressive capability in separating 47kDa and 50kDa proteins with exceptional resolution (figure 1). Unlike other gels we've tried, the GenScript gel not only achieved excellent separation and resolution but also delivered results of such high quality that could be used in publications.
After seeing the excellent performance, our entire laboratory has switched to using SurePAGE gels. The reason is simple - they are not only incredibly easy to use, but consistently deliver high-quality results.

Did you notice any other advantages while using SurePAGE™ Gel?

Dr. Lei Liu

Liu: These gels simplified my experiments while providing exceptional performance in other key aspects.
Firstly, the loading process was effortless thanks to the unique well design with a large loading volume. There is no need to purchase the special gel loading tips, as a regular pipette tip works just fine on SurePAGE gels. This design significantly reduces the risk of sample spillage and uneven loading, which enables consistency and reliable results. Additionally, the gel's user-friendly design ensures that opening the gel cassette and handling samples pose no risk of damage.
The availability of various concentrations of gels is essential for our lab, as we work with a wide range of samples with varying molecular weights. It’s convenient to have a single, versatile gel concentration that works well for such a wide range of protein samples.
Lastly, the affordability of these gels was a key selling point for us, given our limited budget. I want to emphasize that despite their exceptional performance, the price point is incredibly reasonable, making them an excellent choice for researchers with or without budget constraints.

Do you have any additional suggestions for scientists using PAGE gels?

Dr. Lei Liu

Liu: To my fellow scientists considering using PAGE gels, I have one piece of advice: “Do not hesitate to try them out. Sometimes experimenting with new products, even the simplest ones, can bring significant improvement to your workflow.”
In my experience, GenScript SurePAGE gels not only are designed to enhance user convenience but also deliver outstanding performance. I believe you may also find that they are the ideal products that perfectly fit your research needs.
