On July 23 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the monkeypox outbreak a global health emergency. The monkeypox virus belongs to the Poxviridae family. This enveloped double stranded DNA virus has a genome consisting of over 190 non-overlapping open reading frames (ORFs). The virus utilizes over 90 ORFs to encode proteins required for its own replication and morphogenesis. About 30 of these proteins are a part of the structure of the virus, including its membrane. Others encode the viral DNA-dependent RNA polymerase and other transcriptional enzymes 1.
GenScript has developed high-quality recombinant MPXV proteins to accelerate MPXV diagnosis, therapeutics, and vaccine development.
