Abstract

Programmed cell death is a pivotal mechanism of cell-autonomous immune defense against viral infections. Recent studies indicate that both blocking and promoting cell death negatively affect coronavirus replication, implying that coronaviruses may fine-tune cell death pathways to optimize their propagation.
