Accessory Chromosome

The term "accessory chromosome" is not commonly used in modern biology. However, historically, it has been used to refer to extra or supernumerary chromosomes that are not part of the standard set of chromosomes found in an organism.

In some organisms, such as certain insects and plants, there can be variations in the number and composition of chromosomes. The standard set of chromosomes is often called the "autosomes," while any additional chromosomes are considered "accessory chromosomes."
