Permeability coefficient is a term used in biology and chemistry to describe the rate at which a substance moves through a permeable membrane. Permeability refers to the ability of a membrane to allow certain substances to pass through while blocking others. The permeability coefficient measures how easily a substance can pass through a membrane and is usually expressed in units of area per unit of time. The permeability coefficient is determined by a number of factors, including the chemical nature of the membrane and the substance being transported, the temperature and pressure of the system, and the concentration gradient of the substance on either side of the membrane.
